Halftones & bones

I first locked eyes with this guy in a display cabinet at the Ulster Museum… well… I would have if he still had any eyes. My mind wandered… Who was he? What kept him up at night? What would he think of my portrait of his skull?
With all the halftone detailing I should have screen printed this. But no—I decided to carve it by hand, slowly, painstakingly… Much like time itself carved away at him.
Turned out quite well I thought… Unlike him, this piece gets to live on. Printed using archival materials.. built to last. Who knows? Maybe one day, this print will find itself behind glass too, waiting for someone to wonder about the hands that made it.
